The NSW Planning Minister has recently released The Green Paper, which sets out the government’s approach to a whole new planning system.
It proposes MAJOR CHANGE – new planning legislation and a new model – based on strong strategic planning, involving communities at regional, local and precinct levels.
While this new model will eventually provide potentially better outcomes and process, the process of changing to the new system is likely to be difficult. It will take years for planning changes to filter down from State to Regional to Local level for the creation of new rules / plans / processes.
Once in place, applications that are clearly consistent with the Strategy will get a clear run to a faster approval … but … in our view, it may take at least five years to get all that in place.
WHAT HAPPENS TO YOUR PROPOSALS IN THE MEANTIME??????
The Minister wants draft legislation in place by the end of 2013. So if you are thinking about a development project that has any complexities … GeoLINK’s advice would be to ACT NOW.
Call us to discuss your project and we can talk about how to bring forward your approval process to miss the confusion that will come.
